A 3 1/2" tall square light LAVENDER colored antique TOOTH POWDER bottle. IMPORTANT NOTE: The paper label on this bottle is a reproduced copy of the label that came on this bottle, but the bottle is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, dating it all the way back to the 1800's, well over ONE CENTURY OLD.

Bottle embossed: "WATKINS' / TOOTH / POWDER - J.R. WATKINS / MEDICAL / COMPANY - WINONA / MINN. / U.S.A."
Condition: Bottle is in good sturdy condition. It has content stain and age wear (patina) but NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. (Please see pictures for better idea of condition).
Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, ca. late 1800's.

This is a rare tooth powder bottle. You'd think that with all of the common Watkins bottles there are that this would just be another one BUT, for whatever reason, this a rare bottle and one that is near impossible to find with a paper label on it. The paper label on this particular bottle is a of the real label that came on these bottles. This is a scarce tooth powder bottle to find in any condition and few are the ones that have survived with original paper label intact. Very few collectors will come across one with its original paper label. Antique TOOTH POWDER bottles like this contained nothing more than a powdered tooth paste, yet many claimed that they did much more including curing all dental diseases. Watkins took a more conservative approach and only claimed that their tooth powder would "HARDEN THE GUMS" and "SWEETEN THE BREATH". Note too that this bottle is embossed with the J.R. WATKINS MEDICAL COMPANY; only the earliest Watkins bottle had the MEDICIAL embossing. Many of the collectors of antique dental bottles are dentists, building small collections of quality antique dental bottles to display in their waiting rooms and offices and this is a prime example of just this sort of thing as it says so simply, "TOOTH POWDER".
