Original February 16, 1770 manuscript indenture (farm lease) from Plainfield, Windham County, Connecticut.
This original colonial-era legal document records a one-year lease agreement between Josiah Shepard and Abraham Shepard of Plainfield for the consideration of twelve pounds, five shillings.

The agreement contains detailed provisions requiring good husbandry, restricting the cutting of timber and firewood, requiring payment of taxes, and specifying the condition in which the property must be returned at the end of the lease.
