This is an original Cincinnati Reds Collector's Edition Scorebook from Johnny Bench Night at Riverfront Stadium, September 17, 1983. Titled Goodbye Johnny, this program commemorated Bench's final game as a Cincinnati Red after a legendary 17-year career that defined an era. It is signed by four people who lived that career with him.

Johnny Bench signed in blue ballpoint ink, bold and clear. Ted Bench, Johnny's father, signed alongside him, as did Katy Bench, his mother, both of whom were present on the field that night. The fourth signature is Bob Howsam, President and General Manager of the Cincinnati Reds during the Big Red Machine dynasty. Howsam was the architect who built the team around Bench and is a Baseball Hall of Famer in his own right. Having the player, his parents, and the GM who built the dynasty all on the same piece makes this something genuinely different from a standard signed program.

The scorebook itself is substantial. It includes Bench's full career statistics, career highlights, photos spanning his entire time with the Reds, and articles about the Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund established in his honor upon retirement. The original Cincinnati Reds and Houston Astros rosters from the game are also included.

Johnny Bench is a two time World Series champion, ten time Gold Glove winner, and widely considered the greatest catcher in baseball history. This was his night, and these were the people who shared it with him.
