Up for sale is a beautiful, highly authentic, and matching 1930s Western Electric telephone set. This set includes a Western Electric Model 202 (D1) oval-base manual desk telephone paired with its original Western Electric 300K quarter-sawn oak magneto ringer box subset.
Functional Status:
- The hand crank spins smoothly on its original driving gears. Turning the crank generates the twin brass bells loudly and clearly ding as intended.
Cosmetic & Structural Condition:
- Authentic Date Stamp: The bottom inside lip of the oak door retains its original, crisp red factory ink stamp: "I 32", dating the manufacturing of this wooden cabinet to the 1st quarter of 1932.
- Cabinet & Markings: The quarter-sawn oak wood box is in exceptional structural condition with its original finish. All vintage factory stenciling (BATT, L2, GND, L1, COND, R, GN, Y) remains clear, sharp, and highly legible.
- Internal Integrity: The interior tub is exceptionally clean and entirely unmolested. It retains its original 3-bar horseshoe magnet generator (base casting mark 363), 1250-ohm twin ringer coils, original cylindrical condenser, and vibrant period-accurate cloth-insulated jumper wiring.
- Desk Phone Base: The black manual desk stand base and Bakelite handset are in excellent vintage condition with no cracks or major structural defects. The original non-dial blank centerpiece is intact, indicating historical manual switchboard operation.
This is an exceptional, un-tampered specimen ideal for serious antique telephony collectors, historical displays, or functional telephone restoration enthusiasts.
