Roskopf-pattern pocket watches were widely produced in Switzerland as durable, affordable, and practical timepieces, often using simplified movements intended for reliable everyday use. Pocket watches remained common personal items during the early 20th century and were frequently carried by soldiers, officers, workers, and civilians before wristwatches became fully dominant. Engraved presentation and commemorative pocket watches were also given as personal gifts or keepsakes, with inscriptions marking service, locations, holidays, units, or important events.
Made of Nickel casing, this original Swiss-made Roskopf Enkel Patent Presentation Pocket Watch is in EXCELLENT used condition for its age! The case shows various scratches, marks, and wear from use in the field, but remains solid and displays very well. The front dial and casing are marked, “ROSKOPF ENKEL PATENT”...and the movement is also marked with the same maker logo, along with antimagnetic and French / Swiss movement wording. The watch is 100% functional, winds, sets, and runs, though it does run a bit fast and there is something loose internally, possibly the dial rattling slightly, so it may need adjustment or servicing. The dial is EXCELLENT overall with NO chips, restoration, or repainting, but does show one very fine hairline crack between the 1 and 2 o’clock area. The original crystal is present with NO cracks, chips, or scratches. The original hands are present with NO bends, repairs, or damage. The back of the case is hand engraved:
WESTFRONT
ROHRDORF - OHRBE - KALKRIESE
1939
Also features a central hand-engraved monogram that appears to, “RS.” A VERY NICE and interesting original WW2-era German Westfront 1939 Presentation Pocket Watch with Swiss Roskopf Enkel Patent movement and hand engraved wartime back inscription. PERFECT for any collection or display!
