White quinoa is the most common variety of the seed, celebrated for its mild, nutty flavour and fluffy texture.
As a complete protein and naturally gluten-free grain, it takes 10 to 15 minutes to cook.
How to Cook White Quinoa
Rinse: Always wash the quinoa in a fine-mesh strainer for about 30 seconds to remove its natural, bitter-tasting coating (saponin).
Ratio: Use parts 1 1/2 liquid (water or vegetable stock) to 1 part quinoa.
Simmer: Bring to a boil, cover with a tight lid, reduce to the lowest heat, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
Rest & Fluff: Remove from the heat and let it steam with the lid on for an additional 5 to 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.
