A rare and extraordinary document in jazz history, The Max Roach Trio Featuring the Legendary Hasaan captures the only recorded appearance of pianist Hasaan Ibn Ali — a visionary whose angular phrasing and harmonic daring sat somewhere between Art Tatum and Thelonious Monk. Recorded in 1964 and released in 1965, the session finds Max Roach creating space for Hasaan’s explosive creativity, resulting in a set that is both historically essential and musically electrifying. Long regarded as a cult classic, this limited edition pressing brings renewed attention to a pianist whose brilliance was nearly lost to time.
