Antique Thai Gilt Bronze Kneeling Buddha in Añjali Mudrā. Rattanakosin Period.c.1880 - 1910.
A beautifully cast and exceptionally decorative antique Thai gilt bronze Buddha depicted kneeling in the graceful gesture of Añjali Mudrā, with hands joined in reverence. This elegant devotional image dates to the late Rattanakosin period and displays the refined workmanship associated with Bangkok workshops of the late nineteenth century.
The Buddha is portrayed with finely modelled facial features, elongated earlobes and traditional snail-shell curls, wearing an elaborately decorated monastic robe enriched with intricate floral punchwork.
The richly engraved stepped lotus pedestal complements the figure and enhances its architectural presence. Similar kneeling devotional figures and crowned Buddhas from the Rattanakosin period survive in museum collections.
The bronze retains extensive original fire gilding with attractive devotional wear acquired over many decades. The underside remains open with its original clay casting core still largely intact, an authentic feature of traditional lost-wax casting techniques.
Unlike the more commonly encountered seated meditation Buddhas, this kneeling devotional form is comparatively uncommon and offers both sculptural elegance and strong collector appeal.
