Unposted real photo postcard depicting a December 1908 fire at the Boise
Idaho School for the Deaf, Dumb, and Blind. After Boise's new Central School
was built on 7th street in 1906 the old school building was bought by the state
and used for an annex to the Capitol Building, and also housed the State School
for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind. Just before 7:00 on the morning of December 4,
1908, H. P. Martin, principle of the school, stepped out of his office on the
fourth floor to head down to school dining hall and saw the last thing he
needed to see, his school was on fire. If there is any way that a fire in a
school could be perfectly timed this was it. The school children, all 34, were
already lined up for breakfast. The girls on the first floor and the boys in
the basement. The faculty had them do an about-face and march out of the
building. None were hurt. AZO stamp box. Modern pencil text on the back. Mild
edge wear. See scans.
