This is a vintage JW York & Sons cornet, serial 46971, handcrafted in Grand Rapids, Michigan during the early 1920s. York horns from this era are known for their warm, centered tone and high‑quality machining.
The instrument has been recently chem cleaned, with fresh valve oil and slide grease applied. All valves and slides move freely. It comes with its original case.
Overall condition: Good vintage example with natural patina.
Valves & slides: All free and properly lubricated.
Bell: Minor flare denting — cosmetic only.
Finish: Original lacquer with age‑appropriate wear.
Case: Original hard case with blue velvet interior; functional.
Repair note: The upper ring section of the 2nd valve slide tube needs to be resoldered. The ring slides in and fits, but should be soldered for stability. (See close‑up photo.)
With the solder repair completed, this York should play with the classic warm, lyrical tone these early models are known for.
