Old microscopes

The Nuremberg Microscope (1750-1830) is a Culpeper-type microscope made in the Nuremberg region of southern Germany. The Nuremberg region had many workshops that manufactured toys. From around 1750, numerous wooden microscopes were produced, imitating British-made microscopes. Because they were manufactured by toy makers who also produced building blocks and other toys, they are also known as Toy Microscopes.

The city of Nuremberg was a center of trade and hosted a large toy fair. Therefore, this type of microscope is conventionally called a Nuremberg microscope.
