The book of Ivan Franko's cultural and literary works written in Polish was prepared and published for the 160th anniversary of I. Franko's birth and the 100th anniversary of the writer's memory by the joint efforts of Ukrainian and Polish colleagues, in cooperation with university and academic scientists. "Sketch about Literature. Culture, Literary Studies, Publicism" ("Sketch about Literature. Culture, Literary Studies, Publicism") was published by the Association of Polish Teachers in Ukraine (chairman Adam Chlopek) and the Institute of the Book in Krakow (director at that time was Grzegorz Gauden) of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. The editors of the book are Doctor of Philosophy Ivan Matkovsky and Senior Lecturer of the Department of World Literature and Slavic Studies of the Ivan Franko Drohobych State Pedagogical University Ihor Rozlutsky. The thorough preface to “Ivan Franko in the Polish Press: Literature and Culture” was written by a prominent Ukrainian Polish scholar, head of the Department of Polish Studies at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, director of the International School of Ukrainian Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Rostyslav Radyshevsky.
The publication will consist of three volumes of Franko’s Polish-language works (the second volume contains political and socio-journalistic works; the third contains folklore and ethnographic works). This is the first time such a systematic publication has been carried out.

This book includes over 40 articles on the history of the development of Ukrainian literature. In particular, Ivan Franko highlighted his views on the works of Taras Shevchenko, Antoniy Mogilnytskyi, Oleksa Ogonovskyi. There are also articles on the connection between Ukrainian and Polish literature. Ivan Franko also dedicated many articles to Polish writers, in particular Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Slovacki, Bolesław Prus and Severyn Hoszczyński. All illustrations in the book are not accidental, they were copied from the same publications in which Franko's Polish-language works were published during his lifetime, in particular from the magazines "Praca", "Prawda", "Przegląd Społeczny", "Głos", "Przegląd Tygodniowy", "Ateneum", the St. Petersburg "Kraj", "Kurjer Lwowski", "Kurjer Warszawski", "Wisła", "Lud", "Kwartalnik Historyczny".
