Traditional carving mallets from Papua New Guinea are hand-made tools used by woodcarvers, particularly in the Massim region and Trobriand Islands. Carved from dense local hardwoods, many have a rich patina from years of use.

Often kept in men's houses and shared between carvers, they were used to create masks, ceremonial bowls, canoe prows, and other important carved objects.Indigenous carving mallets from regions like the Sepik River and the Massim/Trobriand Islands are frequently carved from a single piece of hardwood. 

Some historical examples (like this one) feature a carved head and were used in conjunction with adzes or chisels.
