Offered for your consideration is this nice antique bronze from Japan.This antique Japanese bronze usubata or flower vase is designed for ikebana arrangements and features distinctive reticulate base and sea horse-like handles. This vase was used in a butsudan(Buddhist family shrine) to offer flowers.The large top part easily separates from the lower vase. Typically the top is taken to a place where flowers are arranged and then taken to the tokonoma where the base awaits. A beautiful way to display any kind of flower arrangement a great stand alone piece of bronze artwork. The diameter of the top measures nearly 7 inches and overall this piece is nearly 6 inches tall. Marked Japan at the bottom. I believe this piece was made in the early years of last century (1900 - 1920), about 100 years old by now.
