Original WWI Era Portrait of Lt. Montgomery S. Colmery – Identified
Item Description: Up for sale is an original, authentic World War I (WWI) era sepia-toned photograph of a U.S. Army soldier, identified by the vintage scrapbook mounting as Montgomery S. Colmery.
Montgomery S. Colmery was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Service, enlisting in 1917. He served at Kelly Field in Texas, initially as an instructor of infantry drill regulations before being promoted to First Lieutenant and training as a pursuit pilot. He was notably the brother of Harry W. Colmery, who is historically recognized as the "Father of the GI Bill" for his work in drafting the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944.
The photograph depicts the soldier in a standard high-collar "doughboy" tunic and service cap. It is mounted on a black scrapbook page with his name handwritten alongside vintage floral paper accents. This is a fantastic piece for collectors of Militaria, WWI Aviation history, or Pennsylvania genealogical ephemera.
