OLD CEREMONIAL SING SING AXE, (wooden blade)
Southern Highlands, Papua New Guinea
Unlike traditional stone axes that held both function and form when it came to village and ceremonial use, wooden bladed axes such as this were purely made with ceremonial use in mind. Held by a warrior during dances, these axes were much lighter and therefore less burdensome during day/evening long events.
