Historical Background
Bill and Helen Shea operated Shea's Station in Springfield, Illinois, along historic Route 66. The station originally operated as a Texaco and later Marathon service station from 1946 through 1982. After retiring from the gas business, Bill Shea transformed the property into a museum dedicated to preserving Route 66 and gas station history. The museum became internationally known among Route 66 enthusiasts and travelers and earned Bill Shea induction into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame.
The station welcomed visitors from around the world and became one of Springfield's most famous Route 66 attractions. Following Bill Shea's passing in 2013, many museum contents were auctioned, making souvenirs and memorabilia connected to Shea's Station increasingly collectible.
