An antique Indian Hindu home shrine, finished in a distressed viridian green.Early 20th c.

This sacred home temple or shrine comes from Rajasthan, it dates back to the 19th century, and becoming increasingly difficult to source. Typically, it would have graced a high caste Brahmin home, and been the focal point of daily puja, a prayer ritual performed to honour and worship one or more deities.

This particular example is finished in a distressed viridian green, and is unusual in its cube-like design.  It comes with sloping side panels, a diamond peaked back panel and turned legs. Made from the Indian hardwood teak, it displays particularly appealing patination.

Such is its size, it would probably have been home to an important single deity, or perhaps a collection of smaller deities adorned with temple paraphernalia.

This is an authentic home shrine that has borne witness to decades of serious puja.  You might consider using it to stage artefacts important to you?
