An antique Indian bronze of the revered flute playing Hindu deity, Krishna. A lost wax casting with aged patination. Early 20th c. Perhaps earlier?

This  antique bronze depiction of the much revered Hindu deity Krishna came to us from an important British, single owner collection, though would have started life in Southern India, more specifically in the State of Orissa, now known as Odisha, in the early 20th c.

This avatar of Vishnu playing the flute for the gopis, milk maids, in Vrindavan, Mathura is known as Krishna Venugopala. As is the norm in this depiction of Krishna, the flute was cast separately, and is almost always missing, as here.
