This is a piece of middle Tennessee chert. It is a microcrystalline form of quartz. It is basically formed when silicates fill cervices in the limestone and solidify into nodules. I found this on one of my many rock hounding outings. This rock polished to a high shine. There is "wood grained" type inclusions (see photos). Petrified wood is not common in this region but is not unheard of. I can't confirm that it is petrified wood. I can say that it is banded chert and the banding has a distinct "wood grain" appearance. It is a beautiful regional piece that is unusual and interesting!
There are no dyes or treatments, this is all natural. My specimens are not created in a factory. They are cut in polished in my garage. Thank you for looking at my workmanship!! This is a perfect display or collector piece that really represents the Appalachian Mountains. This specimen is about 4 inches tall and weighs about 5.13 oz. Please look at all of the photos and message me with any questions at all.. Thanks for looking!
