PROJECTS IN THE JUNGLE

Projects in the Jungle is Pantera's second studio album, released on July 27, 1984, on Metal Magic Records. It represents the band's early glam and heavy metal era, featuring vocalist Terry Glaze and showcasing the early, formative shredding talents of guitarist Diamond Darrell (later known as Dimebag Darrell).

Album Overview: 

This album serves as a transitional bridge between the pure radio-oriented glam metal of their debut, Metal Magic, and the heavier, Judas Priest-influenced sound they would later develop. It also contains influences from Def Leppard and Van Halen.The album was recorded at Pantego Sound Studios and is notable for featuring 

Pantera's very first music video for the track "All Over Tonight".

I AM THE NIGHT (BLUE VINYL)

Released in 1985, I Am the Night is Pantera's third studio album. 

It is historically significant as the final album to feature original lead vocalist Terry Glaze. Bridging their early glam roots with emerging US power and speed metal, the record highlights "Diamond" Darrell Abbott’s rapidly evolving, intricate guitar work.

Musical Style & Development

Genre Shift: The album largely discards the lighter, standard glam of their debut releases in favor of a tougher, speed-metal-adjacent sound.Guitar Work: Guitarist Darrell Abbott solidified his signature shredding arsenal here, incorporating squealing harmonics and dive-bombing runs that foreshadowed the band’s iconic 90s groove metal sound.

Vocals: Terry Glaze’s vocal delivery takes a more aggressive turn on this record, leaning into soaring, Rob Halford-esque shrieks.

Key Tracks & Legacy:

"I Am the Night": The title track is a fast-paced speed metal anthem defined by aggressive shredding and a heavy atmosphere.

"Hot 'N' Heavy": Released as the band's first-ever single and promoted with their second music video, it represents the album's tougher glam-rock edge.

"DGTTM" (Darrell Goes to the Movies): A short, bizarre instrumental track showcasing the guitarist's technical wizardry.

While the album was an independent release financed by the Abbott family, it sold over 25,000 copies—a massive achievement for an underground band at the time.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN (LIVE FEATURING KERRY KING OF SLAYER)

Where It All Began is a popular live bootleg LP featuring Pantera alongside Slayer guitarist Kerry King.

Album Overview:

This release captures a historic moment in the band's history, showcasing a transitional phase just before they broke into the mainstream with Cowboys From Hell.

Tracklist & Content

Side A: Features a legendary live performance recorded at Joe's Garage in Fort Worth, Texas, on May 20, 1989. It includes heavy-hitting tracks from the Power Metal era and unreleased material that would later be refined for their major-label debut.

Side B: Features a special guest appearance by Slayer's Kerry King. 

The setlist includes blazing renditions of two Slayer classics and a Judas Priest cover.
