PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM

The purpose of the Famous Documents program is to help students at all levels become more familiar with the reasons why the United States functions as it does today, and how it was brought to that point by the documents the program presents. Through implementation of this program, three things will result:

• Students will receive information concerning some of the significant documents that influenced or shaped the American character.

• Students will learn of both the historical setting in which the documents were written, and the political problems that the documents attempted to address.

• Students will discover the changes in American life which occurred as a result of the document.
