Inspired by Georges Seurat’s pointillist masterpiece A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, the score explores art, legacy, obsession and human connection across two time periods.
Performed by the original Broadway cast, led by Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters, the recording captures Sondheim’s intricate, layered compositions — including standout numbers “Finishing the Hat”, “Move On”, and the iconic “Sunday”. Produced by Thomas Z. Shepard, the album won the Grammy Award for Best Cast Show Album.
