Presented here is a monumental Louis XVI style gilt bronze seven-light candelabrum by the celebrated French maître bronzier and ébéniste Henry Dasson (1825–1896). Signed and dated “Henry Dasson 1885,” this exceptional ormolu masterpiece represents the height of late 19th century Belle Époque craftsmanship and remains a rare surviving example of Dasson’s sculptural naturalist designs.

Unlike conventional Louis XVI candelabra with scrolling arms, this extraordinary composition takes inspiration directly from nature. Seven elegantly rising poppy stems of varying heights terminate in finely chased floriform candle sockets, complete with delicately modeled petals, textured leaves, and unopened buds. The result is both architectural and organic — a dynamic sculptural centerpiece of remarkable sophistication.

The central urn-form body is richly draped with heavy grapevine festoons symbolizing abundance and celebration. Supporting the composition are three tapering channeled legs adorned with bold Bacchic masks and terminating in finely cast double-hoof satyr feet. The entire structure rests on a tripartite molded plinth centered by foliate ornamentation and raised on laurel-molded toupie feet.

Executed in heavy gilt bronze (ormolu), the candelabrum demonstrates the extraordinary chasing, casting, and gilding quality for which Henry Dasson became internationally renowned. Important signed Dasson works are increasingly scarce and remain highly sought after by collectors of French decorative arts and museum-level ormolu objects.

Condition:
Good antique condition overall. Structurally sound and stable with all floral stems, candle arms, and decorative elements intact. Areas of rubbing and age-related gilt loss are present primarily on the smooth rounded surfaces of the central urn, revealing authentic bronze patina beneath. The surrounding floral structure, Bacchic masks, and candle branches retain a rich, even finish with beautiful warm luster consistent with careful preservation and age.
