Unusual and has a story to tell - see all photos. This is Carmel Mission as rendered in wood and paint with poppy and another flower, on wood panel, carved as shown with calligraphy on the reverse. Signed by Eizo Furuki, of Nagasaki, in 1903, as shown on the reverse. Interestingly Nagasaki has and had a strong Christian community.

Gifted to my uncle by Belle and Joseph Yang (2028-2019) of Carmel around 1995. There is certainly a back story here. If you are a fan of the Monterey Peninsula area and its art, or simply the beauty of our mission, this is a great item and displays well. Heavy wood, about 20 inches X 14.5 inches, about 1 1/3" wide. Could use a bit of a light cleaning. Original hanging wire that should be replaced. See all photos.
