1850-60s Hornet, Sutton & Co., Clipper Ship Card. 3
1/8 X 5 ¼ inches green enamel card depicting bee hive at top and clipper ship
in bronze with matching frame advertising "The magnificent A 1 New York
built clipper ship", some edgewear, the Hornet was
built in 1851 and burned in 1866 on her way to California while carrying
candles and oil, the captain's lifeboat was the only one to survive, it reached
Hawaii 43 days later where survivors were interviewed by Mark Twain who was in
Hawaii as a special correspondent, EX RISVOLD.
