Up for sale is an incredibly rare, authentic antique deck of Bicycle No. 808 "Seconds" playing cards, featuring the legendary and highly sought-after Acorn Back design. This specific back design was originally introduced by The United States Playing Card Company (USPCC) in 1891 and officially discontinued in 1943, making it a true holy grail for playing card historians and collectors. Based on the USPCC factory dating system, the Ace of Spades features the vintage Goddess design with the production code "36 A", which dates this magnificent deck precisely to 1916. This deck has survived for 110 years! Key Historical Features: • Acorn Back Design: A beautiful, intricate early Bicycle pattern featuring acorns and oak leaves (Blue version). • "Ivory Finish": The tuck box side clearly denotes the historic smooth "Ivory Finish" which was used before Air-Cushion became the absolute standard. • Period Advertising: The sides of the box feature wonderful era-accurate advertisements for long-discontinued USPCC brands such as Trophy, Columbia, Full-House, and Sportsman’s. • The "Seconds" Factor: In the early 20th century, decks with microscopic printing shifts were sold in these distinct blue "Seconds" boxes. Finding a 110-year-old "Seconds" box intact with its original cards is an absolute rarity. Condition Report: • The Cards: 100% complete deck (52/52 cards, Ace through King of all suits). No jokers included, as standard for many editions/distribution types of this era. The cards are in excellent antique condition—flat, crisp, with no major creases, tears, or heavy gaming grime. They exhibit a gorgeous, natural age-earned patina that only a century of time can provide. • The Tuck Box: Original blue cardboard box is intact and shows charming period wear, scuffs, and minor edge tearing consistent with its incredible age (please see photos for exact condition details). This is a museum-quality piece of American history, perfect for serious playing card collectors, magicians, or ephemera enthusiasts. Shipping & Handling: • Will be packed with extreme care using bubble wrap and a sturdy box to ensure it arrives safely. • International buyers are welcome!
