A wonderful set of five small decorative plates by Arabia of Finland, each marked on the reverse “ARABIA / MADE IN FINLAND / 15.” The “15” designation indicates the 15cm size. Each plate features a different hand-illustrated black and white folk scene depicting everyday seasonal life in a charming mid-century graphic style: skiing couples in a winter landscape, a lone skier in snow, a figure harvesting in a summer garden, a couple sharing an umbrella in autumn wind and falling leaves, and two figures fishing from a boat at sea with a full net.
The illustrations are rendered in a confident, expressive line drawing style with strong narrative quality — consistent with Arabia’s mid-century Scandinavian design tradition. The series closely resembles the work associated with Arabia’s decorative plate artists of the 1950s–1960s, including the Fennica and seasonal series traditions.
Arabia pottery made in Finland is best understood through the relationship between utility and beauty, with designs drawing from Finnish nature, seasonal light, folklore, and domestic life — and this set captures that spirit perfectly.
Arabia of Finland is one of the most collected Scandinavian ceramics brands globally, with a devoted international collector following.
Condition: Pre-owned. All five plates appear to be in good condition with no chips or cracks observed. Minor surface wear consistent with age. Please reference all photos.
