Antique 19th century 3 gallon stoneware butter crock with original fitted lid. This attractive early piece features a hand-painted cobalt blue floral decoration, blue “3” capacity mark, and an additional incised “3” in the clay.
The crock has a wide, squat form typical of butter crocks and measures approximately 8 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter.
There is a crack visible on the front that extends downward and continues into the bottom, as shown in the photographs. No repairs, restoration, or glue have been applied. Despite the damage, the piece retains excellent display appeal and still retains its original fitted lid, which is often missing on these early examples.
