Gaspare Mutolo, born in Palermo in 1940, is a well-known figure in Italian news not only for his past as a former criminal and collaborator with justice, but also for his subsequent career as a painter.

His artistic journey is closely linked to his life. Mutolo began painting while in prison, finding in art a new means of communication and, in his own words, a means of personal redemption. His works, often characterized by a style that many critics have described as naïve, frequently focus on landscapes, glimpses of his beloved Sicily (a land from which he lives far away due to his status as a protected collaborator), and portraits.
