Sun & Son worked with Little River / Miami in 2015 to create this Zine as decorative travel guide and ephemera that helped inform potential investors and potential tenants on the history of the area. They reworked that info in a modern context to create a positive modern energy.

The designers used replica or vintage-style reproductions and excerps from a Street Map and Directory of Greater Miami from 1904.

The text describes the "Little River" area as a major shipping point for vegetables, surrounded by pine, prairie, and hammock lands; accounts of locals from 1915 “digging Coontie which would bring about 20 cents a barrel;

a story about witnessing indigenous peoples chanting and drumming while doing their Green Corn Dance;

Florida pink sunset spreads; Little River Bubbling Springs; a spread of vintage ads for Little River businesses including Adult Films Theaters; Little River Nurseries; The Goldwyn Follies at the Little River Rosetta Theatre; Little River Shoe Store and Florida Arrowroot in A. B. Hurst Little River Factory;

grainy main street photos with abbreviated facts like “about 5000 persons live between 62nd Street on the south, the Florida East Coast Railway tracks on the east and 79th and 84th Street on the west”;

a Coontie Pudding recipe;

a 1938 ad in The Sun newspaper for the first Royal Castle Open Now in Little River, “Food Fit for a King”;

full color spread of Floria East Coast railway car up-close as someone in Little River might see it waiting for it to pass;

local sign painter’s Barber Shop and grocery store murals;

a posed spread of the dogs of Little River; spread of Iggy Pop in his backyard near Little River.

The Sun & Son website describes the pieces as:

Made up by the heart and soul of those who call it home, Little River is filled with the stories of people who live and work around its namesake. Its residents and businesses are connected by their drive, ambition, and the northern waters that wind into Biscayne Bay.
