The 1979 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 at Mount Panorama Bathurst was won by Peter Brock and Jim Richards in the legendary Holden A9X Torana Hatchback for the Holden Dealer Team. The pair dominated the race, taking pole position and ‘winning by six laps’ in one of the most commanding performances in Bathurst history. It was Brock’s third Bathurst victory and helped cement the A9X Torana as one of the most iconic and successful touring cars ever built in Australia.
