Armstrong Whitworth Whitley 3. Air Vice-Marshal Brian Pashley Young CB CBE OBE (1918–1992) was a South African-born RAF officer and pilot who served from 1936 to the early 1970s. A World War II veteran, he was shot down and badly burned in 1940, later becoming the Commandant-General of the RAF Regiment and Inspector of Ground Defence. Military Career: Joined the RAF in 1936, commissioned in 1938, and served in Coastal Command and 615 Squadron during World War II. Wartime Service: Shot down on May 16, 1940, in Hurricane P2577, requiring extensive hospitalization for burns. Key Appointments: Served as Commandant-General of the RAF Regiment/Inspector of Ground Defence from May 3, 1968, until his retirement, with his successor named in January 1973. Honours: Appointed OBE (1944), CBE (1960), and CB (1972). Death: Passed away on July 26, 1992.
