Description

Rare early 1930s Walt Disney Mickey and Minnie Mouse miniature tea-party set, made in Japan and associated with the George Borgfeldt importing and licensing era. Disney’s first major merchandising agreement gave George Borgfeldt & Co. the right to manufacture and sell Mickey and Minnie figures and toys, and Disney’s official archive notes that many 1930s character figurines were made in Japan under the Borgfeldt license.

This unusual early Disneyana set features two hand-painted bisque figures of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse designed to sit in the included bamboo-style miniature chairs. The figures have molded copyright markings associated with early Walt E. Disney merchandise. Also included is the original-style miniature furniture with patterned fabric upholstery and a group of blueware tea-service pieces.

Condition

Antique condition with substantial age-related wear throughout. The Mickey and Minnie figures show scattered paint loss, surface wear, rubbing, discoloration, and small areas of chipping or finish loss. The miniature tea pieces show wear, soiling, discoloration, and glaze irregularities consistent with age.

The furniture shows wear from age and use, including fabric fading, staining, fraying, loose fibers, and wear to the bamboo-style framework. The table has an old repair: a nail was added underneath to help hold one leg upright. This repair is visible in the photos. The chairs also show age-related wear and minor looseness.

Please examine all photos closely for the exact condition and the specific pieces included. Due to the age, fragility, prior repair, and incomplete nature of the set, it is being sold as-is as an antique display collectible.
