Lot of 3 Vintage 1940s Berchtesgaden & Salzburg Alpine Charm Pins – Allied Occupation Era Celluloid Kitsch

Up for your consideration is a delightful, highly collectible curated lot of three authentic, late-1940s German and Austrian Alpine souvenir chatelaine charm pins representing the historic resort areas of Berchtesgaden, Germany and Salzburg, Austria.

Dating strictly to the post-WWII Allied Occupation era (circa 1945–1949), these colorful, early-plastic novelty pins were incredibly popular tokens for American GIs to collect during their deployments in the European Theater or to mail home to sweethearts as unique tokens of the region.

Detailed Lot Contents

  • Pin 1 (Berchtesgaden Fawn): A beautifully detailed 3D molded scene featuring a charming spotted deer standing in an Alpine meadow with evergreen trees and wildflowers over a scrolled town banner. Suspended below is a dangling, realistically detailed hiking boot charm.

  • Pin 2 (Berchtesgaden Red Bow): A striking, bright red plastic ribbon bow banner crisply stamped with "Berchtesgaden". Suspended from brass chains are two traditional Bavarian cultural charms: a white beer radish with a green leafy top, and a miniature lidded beer stein decorated with hand-painted Alpine flowers.

  • Pin 3 (Salzburg Lucky Charms): An off-white textured bar pin stamped with "Salzburg". Suspended below are three iconic European good-luck charms: a green four-leaf clover, a vibrant red heart, and a detailed, hand-painted black chimney sweep carrying his traditional ladder.

Dimensions & Measurements

  • Dangling Charms: Measure between 1/2" and 7/8" long.

  • Pin Backings: Measure approximately 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" wide

This historic lot is in very good vintage condition with noted age-related wear. The molded plastics and celluloid remain structurally sound with no cracks or warping, and the original hand-painted accents are remarkably bright and crisp. Please note a specific condition detail: on the Berchtesgaden Fawn pin, there is one empty metal ring where a separate charm was originally suspended, leaving 6 fully intact dangling charms across the three pins. The remaining 6 charms are original, securely attached, and swing freely. On the reverse, all three brass safety-pin closures are firmly intact and fully functional. Please review the high-resolution photographs provided to evaluate the exact cosmetic condition.
