The Macchi MC.72 Is A Legendary High-Speed Seaplane Developed By Italy In The 1930s To Compete In The Schneider Cup Seaplane Race. In 1912, French Industrialist Jacques Schneider Founded The Schneider Cup Seaplane Race With The Aim Of Promoting The Development Of High-Speed, Long-Range Seaplanes. In Order To Regain Its Honor, Italy Launched The MC.72 Project In 1929 In Collaboration With For Fiat, Operated By For Aeronautica Macchi. With The Support Of The Mussolini Government, The Project Brought Together Top Engineers (Such As Designer Mario Castoldi) And Test Pilots, Aiming For Speed Records. However, Due To Engine Reliability Issues (Such As Ignition Failure And Cooling Failure), The MC.72 Was Unable To Participate In The 1931 Finals And The Italian Team Was Forced To Withdraw. In April 1933, Test Pilot Francesco Agello Broke The Record For The First Time (682 Kilometers Per Hour) With The Macchi MC.72. On October 23, 1934, It Flew 709.209 Kilometers Per Hour Over Lake Garda, Breaking The Absolute Record For Piston Seaplanes. This Record Was Not Surpassed By The Soviet Jet Seaplane Beriev Be-10 (880 Kilometers Per Hour) Until 1961, But The Position Of The Speed King Of Propeller Seaplanes Remains To This Day. The Macchi MC.72 Represents The Pinnacle Of Piston Engine Aircraft Speed, And Its Technological Achievements And Historical Significance Are Still Remembered By The Aviation Industry Today
