Very good condition original
Belgian Model 1870 Comblain bayonet that has the Alex Coppel “scales” trademark
on the left ricasso and is dated 1870 on the right ricasso. This example
bayonet is pictured on page 16 of Journal of Historical Breechloading Small
Arms Association and listed by serial number. 22 ¾” blade has nice original
bright finish. Guard has original bright finish with a little gray and brown
patina. Brass grip has nice even color and shows some normal handling marks.
Lock button and leaf spring function fine. Fitted in correct original leather
scabbard that has brass throat and a steel tip. Leather shows some normal wear,
stitching and staples are tight. A nice example of a rare Belgian M1870
Comblain bayonet.
