For sale is this great looking Zodiac Olympos 'Mystery Dial' with the classic 'Manta' shaped case. I think the watch dates from the 1970's when Zodiac also launched mystery dials in their Astrographic range. As usual, it's been fully serviced and comes with a one year warranty that covers the proper mechanical functioning of the watch.

As you'll see from the photo's, the superbly finished central ring with its champagne coloured, sunburst finish, is the 'mystery' part of the dial and has a gold pointer for the hour hand. There is a little bit of discolouration to the hour pointer, but it's original, so I've left it alone. The minute and seconds hand are traditionally fixed. The outer gold ring has engraved batons to denote the hours - three batons for '12', two each for '3' and '9' and one for the remainder. Each baton has a corresponding number of lume pips. It's a really great looking dial. At '6', the watch is inscribed with 'Zodiac Olympos' and 'Swiss Made T' (the 'T' being for the tritium in the lume).

The 36mm 20 micron gold plated case, is in very good condition. It clearly shows signs of being worn over the years, with some wear to the gold plate around the lugs, but there are no notable dings or scratches. Edges to the case are clean and sharp. Lug to lug length is 41.5mm and case thickness is 9.5mm. On the upper right hand side of the case at '2' is the Zodiac marked crown - does show sign of wear the gold plate. On the wrist, it's a lovely looking watch.

The press fit case-back has a brushed centre circle and polished outer edge - there is a fine line of a from tool mark where I guess someone has previously 'slipped' when opening the case. It contains a very nicely finished Zodiac 70-72 movement. This movement is an automatic wind, 21 jewel model, running at 21,600 beats per hour. After a full service, it's running on the time-grapher between 0 and +12 seconds per day in all positions, with an amplitude of 290-310 degrees and beat error of 0.0-0.3. It's a very good timekeeper (see the photo). The movement has a 'hack' which means the watch stops when the crown is pulled out to time-setting mode - allowing you to set the time to the second.

PLEASE NOTE: On this watch, the barrel is crimp-sealed. You can't open it without damaging the barrel. Given that the running performance is excellent, I'm happy to leave it untouched.

The case is marked as 'Water and Shock Resistant'. I've not tested it and can't warrant it for such, and whilst I've replaced the case-back gasket, I'd always suggest keeping water and watches away from each other.

The watch is fitted with a brand new premium Italian leather strap which I thought went well with the watch. That said, if you don't like the colour / style, let me know. I do have some other options that I can swap over to.
