Mid-20th century scholarly edition of Eadmer’s History of Recent Events in England (Historia Novorum in Anglia), translated from the Latin by Geoffrey Bosanquet with a foreword by R. W. Southern.
First published in 1964 by The Cresset Press, this work presents a key contemporary account of events surrounding the Norman Conquest and the ecclesiastical politics of the late 11th and early 12th centuries. Eadmer, a monk of Canterbury and associate of Anselm, provides an important primary source for historians of medieval England.
This copy carries a printed ownership label for Sally P. J. Harvey, later Lady Fielding, a noted medieval historian associated with Girton College, Cambridge, and later academic work at Leeds and Oxford. A handwritten note dated April 1968 accompanies the pastedown, suggesting early ownership during her academic career.
A solid research copy or an appealing example for collectors interested in the study of Norman England, ecclesiastical history, and the transmission of medieval texts through modern scholarship.
