This is the rare GSX031 S.T.A.R.S. AUTOGENA DEEPER, an official collaboration watch between GSX Watch Japan and CAPCOM’s BIOHAZARD / Resident Evil series.

This model was created as the Albert Wesker model, inspired by one of the most important and iconic characters in the Resident Evil franchise. It was released on May 22, 2002, and was produced in a very limited edition of only 502 pieces. The model is now discontinued and has become a highly collectible item among both Resident Evil collectors and Japanese limited-edition watch enthusiasts.

The design strongly reflects Albert Wesker’s character. Wesker is the captain of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, a biotechnology specialist, and a former Army engineering officer. He is known for his cold intelligence, tactical ability, mysterious background, and later role as one of the central antagonists of the BIOHAZARD / Resident Evil series. The black, stealth-like design of this watch perfectly matches Wesker’s calm, calculating, and covert image.

Unlike the Chris Redfield GSX029 Flieger Chronograph, which has an aviation-style chronograph concept, the GSX031 is designed as a serious diver-style tactical watch. It was made as a watch suitable for deep underwater missions, with an original specification of 200m ISO water resistance, a unidirectional rotating bezel, strong luminous visibility, magnetic resistance, and a black case designed to reduce reflection.

The model name “AUTOGENA DEEPER” also matches this concept. “DEEPER” refers to the diver-style nature of the watch, while AUTOGENA refers to its special self-generating movement system.

The watch is powered by AUTOGENA, a self-generating movement system. This is not a normal hand-wound mechanical watch, and it is also not a simple battery-only quartz watch. AUTOGENA uses the motion of the wearer’s arm to generate and store electrical energy. In other words, it combines the convenience of an automatic-style power generation system with the stable accuracy of quartz timekeeping.

This makes the movement especially interesting from a collector’s point of view. It has the charm of a mechanical-style self-generating system, but it also offers the practical precision associated with quartz watches. The original GSX explanation describes AUTOGENA as a self-contained energy system that does not require ordinary external battery supply in the same way as a standard quartz watch.

The dial uses Super-LumiNova luminous material, allowing excellent visibility in dark conditions. The watch also features 60-gauss magnetic resistance, a unidirectional rotating bezel, and a black case that fits the stealth mission concept of the Albert Wesker character.

The GSX031 is one of the most distinctive BIOHAZARD / Resident Evil collaboration watches because it is not merely a character-themed novelty item. It was designed as a functional tactical diver-style wristwatch, with a strong in-universe concept connected to Wesker’s role as a covert, highly trained S.T.A.R.S. commander.

BIOHAZARD, known internationally as Resident Evil, is one of CAPCOM’s most famous survival horror franchises. The series began in 1996 and became known worldwide for its tense atmosphere, virus-related outbreaks, terrifying creatures, and memorable characters. Albert Wesker is one of the most important figures in the series, appearing as a mysterious S.T.A.R.S. captain and later becoming one of the franchise’s most recognizable villains.

Because this watch was limited to only 502 pieces, discontinued, and released more than 20 years ago, it is now very difficult to find, especially in good condition. Professionally overhauled in May 2026 by Montre, a long-established watch repair workshop in Japan founded in 1967. The service paperwork is shown in the photos. During the service, the gaskets/seals were replaced, and the capacitor was also replaced.

The capacitor is the rechargeable power-storage component used in this type of watch, functioning like a rechargeable battery. Replacing it helps ensure stable power supply, reliable operation, and better long-term usability. A standard overhaul generally involves complete disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, regulation, and thorough functional checks.
