A Samoan kava bowl, or tanoa, is a hand-carved wooden vessel used to prepare and serve kava during ceremonies and important gatherings. In Samoan culture, it is closely associated with hospitality, respect, and community.
Older examples typically have four flat legs and a simple rim, while later designs—popular from the late 1920s onwards—often feature multiple short legs around the base.
