1945 Sugar Bowl 11th Annual Duke vs Alabama Ticket Stub Frank Thomas (coach for Alabama) during War II.

The 1945 Sugar Bowl was the 11th edition of the annual college football bowl game played on January 1, 1945 at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Duke University (SoCon)  defeated the University of Alabama (SEC) in a dramatic 29-26 comeback victory.

The game is widely remembered as one of the most exciting thrillers in bowl history, featuring four lead changes.  Duke's offense, primarily composed of older Navy trainees, relied heavily on running backs Tommy Davis and George Clark.  Alabama dubbed the "War Babies" due to its remarkably young lineup of civilian players, countered with the spectacular passing of 18 year old Harry Gilmer.  With most of America's youth still serving in the armed forces, Frank Thomas scrambled to assemble a team in 1944.  Finally he was able to fill out a roster, mostly composed of 17-year-old freshmen and students who had been rejected as unsuitable for military service.

The team went down in Tide history as the "War Babies"

This is a very unique piece of history and would definitely add value to your collection.
