Original WWII Japanese Silk Hinomaru National Flag – Woven Jacquard Pattern
This is an authentic, original World War II Japanese Hinomaru (national sun) flag. A classic wartime souvenir artifact, this piece stands out due to its unique fabric production and excellent color.
Material & Production Details
- Premium Fabric: Constructed from lightweight, original silk featuring a distinct, highly desirable woven jacquard chevron/V-pattern throughout the white field. This textured weave catches the light beautifully and is characteristic of mid-century Japanese textile manufacturing.
- The Hinomaru: The central red sun is deeply saturated and dyed directly into the silk fibers.
- Reinforced Corners: Features the classic period-correct red reinforced triangular corner tabs with original contrast stitching and mounting punctures where a rod or hanging cords were once threaded.
Condition Report
This item is in stable, untouched condition, showing honest signs of age and historical handling:
- Fabric: The silk remains pliable. There is a clean vertical separation/split along a natural period fold line right next to the red sun (clearly shown in the close-up photos). It remains stable and can be easily aligned for display or framing.
- Patina & Staining: Shows minor historical foxing, a few small handling smudges (including a small pink mark and a light yellowish oil/water spot), and light edge wear consistent with age.
- Color: The red sun remains incredibly bright, bold, and unfaded.
