A Rare Piece of Sino-Japanese War History

Up for sale is an authentic, unit-marked Chinese Dadao (Great Saber) sourced from a recent estate. This pattern of sword became the symbol of Chinese resistance against the Japanese Imperial Army during the 1930s and 40s.

​Historically Significant Markings:

The brass guard is hand-stamped on both sides with significant military designations:

• ​Side A: Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (中国工农红军)

• ​Side B: 13th Route Army (第十三路军)

​The 13th Route Army played a complex and vital role during the warlord era and the subsequent united front against the Japanese invasion. Unit-marked Dadaos are considerably rarer than standard unmarked infantry models and are highly prized by collectors of East Asian militaria.

​Condition & Provenance:

• ​Blade: The heavy carbon steel blade shows significant "honest" pitting and a dark, uncleaned patina consistent with long-term storage. The edge shows signs of historical use.

• ​Guard: The brass guard has developed a beautiful deep patina with natural verdigris (green oxidation) in the recessed areas.

• ​Hilt: The hilt retains its original period wrap. The material is aged and brittle, but remarkably intact for its age. The iron ring pommel is secure.

• ​Provenance: This was a find from a veteran’s  estate... preserving its historical integrity for the next owner.
