Stereoview titled Cape Horn Altitude 5,500 feet. This is on the CPRR. View# 1322. Central
Pacific Railroad started 1866 with 54 miles of track, reaching from Sacramento
to Colfax. By early spring 1866, there were over 10,000 men at work on the
route. That spring major construction projects were completed at Long Ravine
Bridge and trestle, Cape Horn, Secret Town trestle, and the excavation at Dixie
Cut. This image shows the tracks ready to go around the bend. A man stands by a
pole along the tracks. Both images have some light soiling. The mount has edge
wear on all sides. Soiled back. See images.
