Welcome to my auction - Up for your consideration is this
nice early "The Acme Thunderer" whistle Made in England.
The Acme Thunderer first came out in 1886 as a classic pea whistle
with a shrill sound. It was the first world's sports whistle but
has served many purposes since then. Its use was critical in during
World War II as part of the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) equipment,
used by wardens to signal incoming attacks, organize evacuations, and
assist in rescue efforts. It was and still is used by police today.
The whistle was made by J Hudson & Co Birmingham England.
Founded in the 1870s by Joseph Hudson (1848–1930) and his
brother James Hudson (1850–1889), the company became a manufacturer
of whistles and continues as Acme Whistles, the
world's largest and most famous producer of whistles.
I believe the whistle is No. 058 1/2, is solid brass, has the original pea and blows well/loud. Front is marked 'The Acme Thunderer'
back 'Made in England' as shown, no other marks. Judging from the
surface wear this is believed to be quite early but exact age
unknown.

approximately 2 3/8" long with hang ring, 2" without, 15/16" wide, 1" tall.
