Title: Loud Like Nature Condition: New Description: EDITORIAL REVIEWS The 4th and latest effort by British trio Add N to (X) return with thrir new album, Loud Like Natur, feeaturing 13 brand new tracks including the forthcoming single "Take Me to Your Leader".
REVIEW All that 80s-style electro-clash got you feeling like numb and senseless like those robots in Herbie Hancocks "Rockit" video? Veteran analog avant-garde punks Add N to (X) are here to wake the dead robots with a fourth album full of noisy synths, crazed male and female vocals and screams, and unpredictable song structures that make machines serve the humans, not vice versa.
Okay, so weve heard just about enough of that warbly Macintosh voice ever since Radiohead found it on their Powerbooks, but "Party Bag" does it justice by alternating it with a crazy falsetto. Anarchy comes roaring back on "Large Number," perhaps the only punk song with an 808, and on "Pink Light" we have babbling synthesizers and murmured lyrics all sharing space like a Steve Reich master class. "Up the Punks" is downright poppy, with an almost cliché hip-hop beat loping along and a groovy, spongy synth solo that just doesnt let up.
Instead of grabbing the latest hot guest vocalist (is there anyone who doesnt have Miss Kittin on speed dial?), Add N to (X) ask a few special folks to appear, like geriatric producer/eccentric Kim Fowley, who freaks the beats on "Invasion of the Polaroid People" with a spoken-word rant thats half Ken Nordine, half Jello Biafra.
Its almost a relief when the record hangs up, like talking to a crazy and exhausting friend who didnt get the memo that were all supposed to be zombie-d out like its 1982 right now.
