The ceramic material used is self-sharpening, so the sandpaper can be ground at a constant speed over a long period of time.

They work well for sanding steel, removing old paint and varnish (including, for example, gel coat), removing rust, removing hard paint, and sanding hardwood. 

The disc is also suitable for grinding (sanding) stone and granite, Corian and lightly ground welds. 

They can be used with eccentric or angle grinders (after using the appropriate hook and loop attachment).
