A defining moment of 90s indie pop, Ugly Beautiful captures Babybird’s sharp songwriting, lo‑fi charm and melodic melancholy at full strength. The 2023 National Album Day reissue brings renewed clarity to Stephen Jones’ intimate recordings, pairing brittle bedroom‑pop textures with widescreen hooks that helped the album break into mainstream recognition. From the cult classic “You’re Gorgeous” to deeper cuts that showcase Jones’ off‑kilter storytelling, this limited black‑vinyl edition offers a polished, collector‑focused presentation of a beloved era‑defining record.
