Description:
Rare Vintage Omega Constellation Parts/Restoration Project – Caliber 551
Up for sale is a legendary Omega Constellation heart from the late 1950s. This lot features one of the most desirable vintage Omega movements and a sought-after dial design.
Key Highlights:
• Movement: Authentic Omega Caliber 551 (24 jewels). Serial number 17019795 dates it to approximately 1959. It is a chronometer-grade movement adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. The movement is clean and currently in working order (keeping time, but service history is unknown).
• Dial: Original silver "Crosshair" dial with beautiful authentic patina. All markers and logos are present.
• Hands: Original dauphine-style hands.
• Case: Please note, the watch is housed in a non-original, replacement gold-plated case (Soviet-era "Poljot" style back cover). The original solid gold case was lost/replaced years ago.
Condition:
The movement and dial are in excellent vintage condition. The case shows signs of wear consistent with age. This is a perfect "donor" for someone looking to restore a solid gold or steel Constellation, or for a collector who appreciates the superb 551 movement.
Shipping:
Worldwide shipping with tracking number. Will be packed securely.
Sold as-is for parts, restoration, or as a unique marriage watch. Please refer to high-resolution photos for the exact condition.
COLLECTOR’S CONDITION & MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE:
This timepiece is part of a long-term private collection. It was previously professionally serviced by a master watchmaker, but has remained in storage for a significant period without regular use.
Pre-shipment Check: Before packing, I personally verify that the movement starts easily, runs steadily, and that the time-setting functions work correctly.
Accuracy Disclaimer (Please Read):
As with all vintage mechanical watches kept in long-term storage, the original lubricants may have aged or thickened over time. Therefore, I do not guarantee modern chronometer-level accuracy.
The watch is sold in "Running" condition, but it may run slightly fast or slow (within or slightly outside vintage tolerances). Precision can also be affected by the vibrations and temperature changes during international transit. A routine professional adjustment or "oil refresh" by your local watchmaker may be required to achieve your desired timekeeping standards.
Sold "As-Is" regarding daily precision. By purchasing, you acknowledge that vintage mechanical movements are sensitive instruments that may require fine-tuning upon arrival.
Authentic vintage. Serviced in the past, long-term storage. Runs and sets correctly. Accuracy not guaranteed due to age and storage; may need minor regulation.
I bought this watch at a flea market in this condition. No guarantee, no return!
Functionality: The movement is ticking, but as with all vintage mechanical parts, a professional service (cleaning and oiling) is recommended for daily use and timekeeping accuracy.
